1. Morning Visualization
Before your day starts, spend 5 minutes visualizing yourself handling cases with calm confidence. Athletes do this before every game. You can too.

2. Decision Fatigue Reframe
When overwhelmed: ‘I have to make 10 decisions today’ → ‘I GET to use my expertise to help 10 patients today.’ Small shift, big impact.

3. Evening Wind-Down
Create a 10-minute rhythm to release the day. Listen to a guided practice, journal, or simply breathe. Don’t carry the clinic home with you.

4. Pre-Difficult Conversation Prep
Before a tough client conversation: Close your eyes. See yourself staying calm. Hear yourself speaking with clarity. Feel the confidence. Then walk in.

5. Weekly Reflection
Every Friday: What went well this week? What did I learn? What am I proud of? Celebrate small wins. They add up.

It was 3am.

The client that I’d disappointed kept me awake.

I’d done everything I could but it wasn’t enough.

It was preventable.

To be in the midst of your hectic schedule and know how to handle high emotions, constant transitions and extreme decision fatigue …

To be able to reset for every appointment like it’s your first of the day …

To be able to listen well to your client …

To be able to stay thorough in the details all day long …

To hold connection with your team …

To keep showing up because you know who you want to be in tough moments.

Decompress. It is SO natural to need to transition from your work day.

The healers need healing.

We can no longer stay comfortable like this. Our calling used to excite us, motivate us.

We fought hard to get where we are and we’ve let the stressors, long hours, negative feedback and difficult cases suffocate our fire.

Our normal needs to get back to perspective for our opportunity to help people, excitement to show up for others and an overwhelming compassion to be our best for those put un front of us.

The healers need healing - for not just their sake but who they serve.

The hallmark movie makes good background noise.

1. Between vet visits matters as much (if not more) than the actual vet visit.
2. Air, water and food are the big 3 when it comes to what is going into their body. Sure, there are organic shampoos, clean household products and great supplements (some of which I swear by), but if you want to focus on those 3, you’re making a huge difference already!
3. Integrative medicine is the sweet spot - combining western & eastern medicine gives us EVERY tool for our pet’s health. Find a TCVM practitioner that will offer this.
4. You’ll save a ton of $$$ by playing the proactive game vs the reactive game.
5. Something I learned from my TCVM mentor - your intention for your pet matters. Trust your heart for them and don’t let fear steal from you all you’re doing for them and with them!

BOUNDARIES OF CONTROL + INFLUENCE.

At this point, you’ve taken the NAVLE, you’re just waiting on the results, you’ve played your part and there’s nothing left for you to do.

This moment will be like many moments you have ahead of you as a vet.

You did the surgery, the patient recovered well and went home …

You diagnosed the disease, you made your plan, you communicated everything to the client, you sent home the medications …

You left the voicemail …

You typed the record …

There comes a point where you’ve done your part, you’ve controlled what was within your circle of control and influenced what was within your sphere of influence … BUT often times we keep carrying all of which is OUTSIDE our boundaries of control and influence. It often looks like worry, anxiety, negative self-talk and worst-case scenario thinking.

None of which serve you.

So make that small but profound adjustment with knowing what you can/have controlled/influenced and do something that DOES serve you.

Whether that’s letting go, shelving it, thinking best-case scenario or choosing affirming self-talk.

The long game you’re about to enter will benefit DEEPLY from this effort to lead your mind.

- See yourself moving throughout your day u rushed, listening with eye contact, speaking clearly and doing one thing at a time really well. Your body will follow.

3. Move at 0.75x speed.
- You’ll probably still move at 1.2x speed but you won’t feel it.

4. Know your boundaries of control and influence.
- Too much energy is wasted on trying to carry what we can’t (case outcomes, client expectations, schedule capacity). What you can control is your pace, posture, perspective and character. What you can influence is your client’s experience (being heard, seen, supported) and your patient’s health. You can’t control those.

5. Incorporate transition times and reset moments.
- Practicing medicine is more like a tennis match than a marathon. Every point was made with either a winner or a mistake - to not reset to get fully present for the next point won’t serve you. (I didn’t intend for the pun but you’re welcome).

6. Take up space for yourself.
- To think.
- To learn.
- To process.
- To make a plan.
- To get closure.
- Without this, everything else is (negatively) affected.

7. Rest before work.
- Launching happens from a place of rest.
- This is more effective and productive than working to get to a place of rest.
- Thinking this way also gives rest the permission it deserves, especially in today’s culture. So, when you’re resting, own it.
